The Mid-Atlantic Burn Camp

A huge part of our efforts are directed to supporting local children's burn camps.  The Mid-Atlantic Burn camp was established 15 years ago and has since grown to be a week long summer camp session with 100 children and 50 counselors.  The camp is held every August in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.  It is a week of fun and freedom for the kids. It gives them the  opportunity to forget about painful scars that they have to live with daily and just be the wonderful children that they are.

The rewards for the children are immeasurable.  The camp promotes self-esteem, confidence and growth.  In addition to the summer camp there are exchange programs with other camps, winter ski camp for the older kids, a scholarship program and many other year round programs to help these very special children heal. 

In addition to the the Mid-Atlantic Camp, we support the National Children's Burn Camp, which is annually sponsored by the International Association of Fire Fighters Burn Foundation.  This camp sponsors 41 fire fighter counselors from the 41 regional camps from the United States and Canada.  Montgomery County, Maryland is proud to be the residence for this terrific group during their weeklong stay.  The camp is held every September and the Burn Foundation of Montgomery County, MD is please to be part of this very special week.  We provide a welcoming party on the day of their arrival as well as gifts for each child and their counselor.  On Tuesday night we also sponsor a dinner out for the whole group.  During the very busy week, the participants are treated to sightseeing of museums, monuments and visit many of the fire houses and have other special evenings out provided by the fire fighters from around the area.
